Thirteen resident or migratory species of marine mammals generally border the St. Lawrence Estuary. This is why several initiatives have been undertaken to protect marine mammals in the St. Lawrence Estuary. A number of governmental, municipal and community actors have acquired particular expertise there and are currently working in this field. This is why the actions proposed in this intervention plan are mainly focused on aspects that have not been addressed by other organizations and for which the ZIP Committee and its partners have the necessary expertise. Thus, following a preliminary analysis and meetings between the members of the guidance and support committee, two fields of intervention were identified:
-
Marine observation activities between Baie-Comeau and Pointe-des-Monts and boating on the north shore of the St. Lawrence Estuary
-
The development of the Maritime Trail on the north shore of the estuary (The Blue Whale Route).
