Athabasca Basin: Tailing Ponds and Impacts on Aquifers

GW Solutions’ team is supporting Keepers of the Athabasca to learn more about the connection between surface water and groundwater and the water quality around tailing ponds in Northern Alberta. The team has been gathering, cleaning, standardizing and integrating groundwater and surface water quality and quantity data from different sources of information. We have interpreted the data and developed a visualization tool and digital platform detailing groundwater and surface water quality and their potential interaction. The outcome of this project could improve the knowledge of communities, industry, and the public to understand, manage, and protect water. The two main sources of surface water quality that GW Solutions used for its study are Alberta Environment and Parks dataset and Regional Aquatics Monitoring Program (RAMP) database.
